Hassan Whiteside and the Heat have agreed to a deal that will keep the free agent center with Miami, Whiteside announced on The Players’ Tribune.
Miami Heat shot-blocking center Hassan Whiteside isn’t going anywhere.
Early Friday morning, Whiteside announced that he plans to stay with Miami in a self-written story published in The Players’ Tribune. Shortly thereafter, a person with knowledge of the contract told USA TODAY Sports that Whiteside and the Heat agreed on a four-year, $98 million deal.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal can’t be formally signed until the free agency moratorium lifts on July 7.
In The Players Tribune announcement, Whiteside wrote:
“I’ve played on eight teams since college — from Reno to Sioux Falls to Sichuan, China. I am not ready for there to be a ninth. I have decided to re-sign with Miami. I just wanted to take this time to tell all the fans how much you mean to this team, and to me. Can’t wait to get back to work and try to bring another championship to Miami….
