DETROIT — While many teams were active as the trade deadline approached on Monday, the Red Wings did not make any moves, believing they have the right mix
“We’ve been a playoff team almost the whole season,” coach Jeff Blashill said. “Anybody that thinks it’s easy can come and sit with us every night. This is a hard league, everybody’s about the same. I said the other day and I know this — we’re a good enough to team to win.”
The Red Wings are 32-21-11, fourth in the Atlantic Division and occupying the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. But only five points separate them from the division-leading Florida Panthers. They are aiming to reach the playoffs for the 25th season in a row.
Blashill doesn’t see the advantage in being hasty, even with the standings tight.
“I think people get excited about what they don’t have,” he said. “A lot of times people think the grass is greener. A lot of times the unknown is more exciting. I like the known. I like what we have as a team.”
