Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt re-injures back and is 'likely' headed to IR

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt re-injured his back and is “likely” headed to injured reserve, a person familiar with the injury told USA TODAY Sports on Monday night.

IWatt had surgery in late July for a herniated disc and this appears to be the same injury, said the person who requested anonymity because the team has not announced it.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year was believed to have suffered the injury in Thursday night’s loss to New England.

NFL Network was the first to report the development.
