Foles shines in Wentz's place, but Eagles barely hang on

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – There was no dropoff from Carson Wentz to Nick Foles at quarterback.

There was a dropoff, however, on defense as the Eagles had to hang on to beat the lowly Giants 34-29. The win was secured when Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw incomplete into the end zone on 4th-and-goal from the 11.

Foles was starting his first game in place of Wentz, who tore his ACL last week and is out for the season. Foles completed 24 of 38 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns as the Eagles improved to 12-2.

They clinched at least a first-round bye in the playoffs. They can clinch the top seed in the NFC playoffs with their next win or Minnesota loss.
