Clippers, Lou Williams agree to contract extension

Lou Williams and the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to a contract extension.

The Clippers announced the deal with Williams on Wednesday, a day before the NBA’s trade deadline.

Williams is averaging 23.3 points during the best season of his career and had been mentioned as a trade possibility in the final year of a contract that is paying him $7 million this season. Instead, the Clippers rewarded him with a new multiyear deal.

Williams is the NBA’s leading scorer off the bench this season and was twice named the Western Conference player of the week in January, when he led the league in points scored in the month.
