The former N.B.A. player Amar’e Stoudemire has caused a stir with his response to a hypothetical question about having a gay teammate.

Stoudemire, now playing in Israel, told Walla Sport: “I’m going to shower across the street. I’m going to make sure my change of clothes are around the corner, and I’m going to take a different route to the gym.”

Asked if he was joking, he said, “I mean, there’s always a truth within a joke.”

The remarks were captured on video. Other Israeli League players interviewed said they would be unconcerned about having a gay teammate.
